Somali Museum of Minnesota

The Somali Museum of Minnesota is home to traditional Somali artifacts with over thousand pieces and first of its kind outside of Somalia. It utilizes the artifacts and arts as an educational tool to help Somalis and other greater communities in Minnesota in understanding Somali culture and traditions.

The branding of the museum is based on an ablution jar (Weeso). This object rarely leaves the sights of those who use it; a daily usage and reminder. For the design of the identity, I augmented the Weeso's shape with that of the known traditional and national colors of Somalis, Hiddaha iyo Dhaqanka, normally worn by females. Most Somali artifacts, including the Weeso, are very round and organic; hence, the style of the logo, save for the typography, which is serif that gives a prestige look.
