Read, Read, Read
— 2017

Read, Read, Read, 2017, is a tablet made out of wood found in Muslim countries (Loox in Somali). The three repeated words of read come from the very first verses (signs) of Quran revealed to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in the Islamic tradition. The tablets are used for writing the holy book Qur'an.

In this project, it is both a writing tablet and a book rest when jointed. Craftsmanship, i.e. religious, house items, traditional huts, in Somalia fulfill the needs of everyday life. However, these crafts transform the perception and values attached to them when removed from their ordinary setting.

Read, Read, Read is made out of laser cut wood, honey, milk, water color paint, and charcoal. It was part of Spearwave #4 at East Side Freedom Library.
