Somalis + Minnesota
The Somali Museum of Minnesota collaborated with Minnesota History Center to create a Somali exhibition at the center titled Somalis + Minnesota. As a lead graphic designer for the exhibit, I was responsible for most of the design needs, more specifically in weaving and translating Somali cultural assets into designs.
The logo treatment uses irregular shapes derived from traditional nomadic Somali house. Two of these shapes mimic the Somali and Minnesota maps. Colors are inspired by the Somali traditional female garments, Somali flag and Minnesota’s maroon color. The rest of the exhibit’s design needs were met by resting on those aforementioned elements.
