This is the 4th installment of Spearwave.
Spearwave is a monthly intimate exhibition and gathering space for conversations about art and culture. We hope this gesture will foster interconnectedness, and, using spearwave as a foil, allow these artists a fresh opportunity to experiment with new ways of bringing to you the fruits of their artistic conceptions.
Mumin is a photographer, visual storyteller and curator at Soomaal House of Art. He is the current American Swedish Institute Malmberg fellow and past recipient of a 2013 McKnight Artist Fellowship for Photographers. Mumin has exhibited his work locally and nationally.
Haider is a graphic designer, visual artist, and designer at Soomaal House of Art. He has done branding for both national and international institutions. He applies a holistic approach to design while exploring the human interaction with designed entities. In his practice, Haider takes into account the cultural implications that give meaning to design.
Janno writes short stories in English and Somali. He likes to engage and entertain, exploring characters in situations ripe with tension and humor. His work appears on Wardheernews, Hiiraan Online, Raxanreeb, and others. One of his stories appears in the upcoming anthology: Err: Volume One, to be released on March 15th. His debut e-book, Qasaaye: A Collection of Stories, is on Amazon Kindle. And he's now working on his second e-book: The Suitors. He lives in Minnesota with his wife and kids.
